Common Dental Emergencies

Woman with jaw painShould you see a dentist? Let us know if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • Dental abscess — Abscessed teeth may be extremely painful or completely asymptomatic (no pain whatsoever). If you have what looks like a pimple on your gums near the root of the tooth, you likely have an infected nerve.
  • Knocked-out or chipped teeth — The faster you can see our emergency dentist, the more likely we’ll be able to save your tooth. Until you get here, store your tooth fragment in a sealed container, completely submerged in milk, contact solution or tap water.
  • Broken filling, crown or bridge — Take care not to use your tooth to bite or chew with, as the pressure could cause it to break down further.
  • Swelling and bleeding — Apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding. If it’s severe or swelling extends into your face, head to the nearest emergency room.
